Cheers to 3 Floyds!
I remember when I first heard the word Gumballhead. I was like, “I don’t know what this is but it sounds amazing.” When someone told me about Zombie Dust, I had the same exact reaction. As you can imagine, I was not unimpressed or let down when I first tried these beers by 3 Floyds.
What’s interesting though is that back then, maybe 2012 or 2013 and certainly before, these beers were cult hits in and outside of Indiana. You had to know particular spots in your city to go and get them. Plus, you probably didn’t tell everyone to ensure the bar didn’t run out when you were there, or worse entirely, before you got there.
Now, of course, these brands are much more established. That means their visibility and availability inevitably rise, but that doesn’t diminish their craftsmanship or authenticity in brewing. While some beerheads might relish hard-to-find drinks as a testament to their fandom, distribution of quality brews makes headwinds for the rest of us. It opens peoples’ minds to the idea of trying another beer, maybe even one from a place they have never heard of, like Munster, Indiana. So here’s to you 3 Floyd’s, cheers!
